Funny Stuff

It's been hard for me to decide what funny or humorous things I should write about today for Wordfull Wednesday from Chocolate on my Cranium. My kids make me laugh all the time. Like the time my oldest child, Stephen, was 2 and he found some markers, took off all of his clothes, and drew very colorful stripes all over his body. His feet, legs, tummy and arms were covered in scribbly rainbow stripes. When he saw me he just smiled and said, "Hi Mama. I a tiger! Rooaaaaahhhhhr!" What could I do but laugh?

I have to share one other thing that makes me laugh. One of my very favorite movies is Roman Holiday, starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. It's the story of Princess Ann who runs away in Rome and meets an American journalist named Joe Bradley. It is a funny movie, but there is one scene in particular that cracks me up every time! It is the scene where Joe and the princess visit the Mouth of Truth. If you have never seen this movie, or if you just want to refresh your memory, watch the clip (it takes about 90 seconds) and then keep reading so I can tell you why it so funny to me.

What makes this clip so funny is that Audrey Hepburn really had no idea that Gregory Peck was going to pretend his hand was being bitten off. He had privately talked to the directory before they filmed the scene and said that he wanted to try it that way and see how Audrey reacted. It went so well they used the scene in the movie. It is so much funnier to me, knowing that we get to see her real reaction. And if you really have never seen the whole movie, I would highly recommend it.

That was a very funny clip! I haven't seen Roman Holiday in ages. I know my older girls would love it.

If anyone's interested, they could ask Aimee how she know's that little off screen secret. It's a good story too.

I'll just go ahead and tell the story my Mom is referring to, 'cause it is a good story and she was there too. For my 17th birthday I got tickets to see "A Conversation With Gregory Peck" which was basically Gregory Peck talking about his life and his movies and answering a few questions. Roman Holiday was already one of my favorite movies so I was very excited! My Mom and I went and enjoyed every bit of it. One of the stories he told was the one about the Mouth of Truth. It was great to hear him tell it.

As we were leaving we saw a nice blue limo parked out front and the driver was waiting for Gregory Peck and his wife Veronique to come out. So Mom and I thought we'd just wait a while. A few minutes later a lady came out and said that Mr. Peck was upstairs meeting the people who had front row tickets. She said we should just come in with her. We said we would just wait, but she went in and talked to the security people who literally turned their heads as we walked in and up the stairs. There was Gregory Peck sitting at a table talking to a few people, so we went over. When we got to him he stood up to shake our hands. Mom had to introduce us because I just couldn't say anything. She told him that we came for my 17th birthday. He asked our names then took my hand again and said, "Seventeen is a good age. Go and have a good life." He signed our tickets and we left. I don't think I will ever forget.

I'll have to see if my library has that one. I love old movies. I wish some things in life were a little more old fashioned or at least like the good old movies make it seem.
