Affection

I decided to write wordfull wednesday here on my new blog. For other wordfull wednesday participants visit Chocolat On My Cranium.
One summer when I was a teenager my family went to visit my grandparents. I slept on a cot just outside the room where my parents were sleeping. I was not trying to eavesdrop, but I couldn't help but hear them say to each other, "I love you" just before turning out the light. They did this every night. I always knew that my parents loved each other. They have never been afraid to show their love for each other in front of their children. What a comfort it was to me as a child to know that my Dad loved my Mom (and she loved him) so much that he would kiss her and call her beautiful when he left or came home, or even when she just walked into the room. They were that way with us kids as well. We always got a kiss and a hug when we left for school. My parents were so good at showing me they loved me that I never had a chance to doubt it. They listened when I talked, even if it sometimes took a long time for me to say everything. Now that I am a parent myself I realize that this had to be a little difficult at times. But they did it. I try to follow their wonderful example of showing their love and affection. I hope that those I love know that I do, for it is very, very much.

I'm grateful for all the good examples in my life. It was a long time before I realized how much.

This is something that is very important to me! I try my hardest to show my kids (in many ways) how much I love them. It was nice reading you post and realizing that it may not be long before they realize just how much I do love them (because right now they seem to take it for granted!). Thanks for sharing your sweet memories!

I used to roll my eyes or make gagging noises when my parents would kiss or hug in fron to f us kids. Now I hear my children doing the same thing when my husband and I show affection for each other. I'm so glad my parents did it though. I knew they loved each other and that made me feel safe....and loved.

I remember Howard W Hunter saying that the greatest thing a man can do for his children is to love their mother. Great post!

Being married to someone who didn't witness this in his parents makes it extra important for us to show our kids we love each other. He knows what it's like to see a bad example!

Aimee, that is such a sweet story. I love it. I think it is so cool that Mom and Dad have always been so affectionate towards each other and towards us kids. I can't imagine living in a home without affection and spoken love. We are so blessed. Thanks for sharing that memory. Love you lots

Taking time to listen to the whole story of a rambling youngster is challanging (as I am learning with my 4 yr old daughter), but consitantly rewarding. Example is such the teacher!
