Monday's Mess: the piano

Ok, here we go again. My piano is quite cluttered. Too much music, and stuff just keeps getting piled on top. It will be very nice to get it cleaned up, plus it will help the whole living room look better.

Monday's Mess: yikes!

This is my sewing table.

I hesitated before choosing this spot, because it is sooo bad. The laundry room is the most embarrassing place in my house. But I have some good motivation to work on this table this week. My sister, Heidi, is coming to visit tomorrow and even if we don't sew anything, we are going to talk about sewing, and so that table has to be better. I'm not promising to get it completely cleaned and organized. But it will be better. Heidi will be here tomorrow afternoon or evening, so I've got tonight and tomorrow morning to make some progress. I think I can do it.

Monday's Mess: the lazy susan

This is one of the lazy-susans in my kitchen. Actually just part of it. It is a source of frustration to me!

I have two, but this is the messy one. The other one only has pots and pans and stays pretty neat. This one is always a mess. I usually clean it out once a year or so, but it always gets looking like this within a day or two. So I think I really just need to clean out all these odd containers, get rid of the ones I really don't use, and store the ones I do use somewhere else completely. I haven't got it all figured out, but hopefully I'll think of something good.

Monday's Mess: a little late

The top of my fridge. It needs help!

Monday's Mess: a little prettier please

One of my goals in all this monday's mess madness is not only to clean up and de-clutter my home, but to beautify it as well. We've lived here for almost 4 years now (man, does time fly!), and really the only thing I've done to decorate or make my home look lovely is put up a few pictures. It's time to fix that! So I'm starting with the biggest eyesore in the house; my kitchen window.

I've hated that window shade thing since the first day I saw it. Not only is it horrendously ugly, it doesn't even work. It is just about impossible to get it to move up or down. I will be so glad to see it go!

Monday's Mess: the next step in the laundry room

I'm sure anyone who sees these monday messes is going to think I'm an absolute slob! Well, I probably am, but I'm trying really hard to change that. So I'm going to start with a clean topic.

My bedroom is clean and it feels wonderful! Somehow my bedroom becomes the place where everyone, including me, puts things when they can't figure out where it should go. Sad to say, but a dumping ground. Well, it's cleaned up now, and we're trying really hard to keep it that way. OK, now for today's mess.

You might recognize that wall. The ironing area is still clean (I even got out the ironing board this weekend and put it away again!) so now I'm moving into the laundry room and the next mess along that wall. I decided to stick with the laundry room this one more week because of that one clean spot. It's beautiful and I want more of it.

On to the next mess!

I really want my home to be a special place. I know that cleanliness is REALLY not the only thing that makes a home wonderful, but it certainly doesn't hurt. That is why I decided to start Monday's Mess/Friday's Fix-up. I can't get my whole house full of messes under control all at once. It's just too overwhelming! And when I feel overwhelmed, I just freeze and absolutely nothing gets done. But I did accomplish my goal last week! That mess is gone and I'm ready to move on to the next. And since this week is looking less hectic than last week, I'm going to tackle something a little bigger. And scarier!

This is in the little hallway leading into my laundry room. That mess has been there for waaaaaaay to long and it will feel so good to get rid of it. I am going to leave the ironing board there because I really like having a place where I can just leave it up and use it whenever I want to without a lot of hassle. But everything else has to either be put away or tossed away. I think I can do it!

Monday's Mess

I've been thinking about this for a while and I've been really excited for Monday to come. On Monday's I'll post a picture of a mess somewhere around my house. That doesn't sound very exciting I guess. The exciting part is that during the week I will clean up, reorganize, de-clutter, whatever needs to be done, and show the results on Friday's Fix-up. I'm hoping this will be a good motivator for me. It will give me a clearly defined goal to work on, and I will have a time limit which is very important for me to have. But why post a picture? That could be just a little embarrassing! Well, I want to be able to compare the pictures. I think it will make me feel good, plus it will give me a little encouragement on those discouraging days when I don't seem to be able to get anything done.

Here is today's mess.

This is just inside my bedroom door. All these games do not belong here. I started cleaning out the hall closet just after Christmas and put these games in my room "just until I empty the closet." Well the closet is still not empty. This week is looking pretty busy, so instead of trying to do the whole closet I'm just going to worry about getting these games put away.
